Moving from Baku to Turkey
The busiest international direction we run, and the one where road transport almost always wins on the arithmetic.
Turkey is where most people moving out of Azerbaijan are going, and for household goods the answer is nearly always a truck. It is cheaper than air by a wide margin, faster than sea by weeks, and your belongings are loaded at your door in Baku and unloaded at your door in Istanbul without ever being transferred between modes.
There is a second option worth knowing about: the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway runs west into Turkey, and for larger consignments — or when the road border is congested — it can beat the truck on both time and price. We check both before quoting rather than defaulting to whichever is easier to book.
Realistic transit door to door is five to eight days for a full load, depending on the destination city and the queue at the border. That figure includes customs. Anyone quoting you three days is quoting driving time and leaving out the part that actually takes the time.
Getting there
Road, full load
The whole vehicle is yours and it goes straight to the address. Fastest and simplest, and the right answer for a full household.
Road, part load
You pay for the space you use and share the truck. Significantly cheaper and slower, because the vehicle is filled and follows a route. Sensible for anything under about a third of a load.
Rail via Baku–Tbilisi–Kars
Container or wagon west through Georgia into Turkey. Competitive for volume and unaffected by road-border queues; adds terminal legs at both ends.
Air, for the urgent part only
Rarely right for a whole household, frequently right for the fraction you need in the first week. Splitting the shipment is usually the cheapest sensible answer.
Customs and paperwork
The part that decides your transit time far more than the driving does.
Documents prepared before departure
CMR, invoices, packing list, export declaration. A truck standing at the border over one missing paper costs a day and the driver's time, and it is entirely avoidable.
A numbered inventory
Customs wants to know what is in the load. A proper inventory — what is in which box, photographed where it matters — is what keeps an inspection to an hour instead of a day.
Clearance at both ends
We handle the Azerbaijani side ourselves. In Turkey we work with a partner agent, or with your own broker if you have one.
Frequent questions
How long does a move from Baku to Turkey take?
Five to eight days door to door for a full load, depending on the destination and the border. Part loads take longer because the vehicle is consolidated first. Both figures include customs; the driving is a much smaller part of it than people assume.
Can I see where my things are while they cross Turkey?
Yes. Which is cheaper, road or rail?
For a household-sized load, usually road. Rail becomes competitive with volume, and it wins outright when the road border is badly congested. We check both — the difference is worth checking rather than assuming.
Can you deliver to Antalya or Izmir, not just Istanbul?
Yes. Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Bursa and elsewhere. The destination changes the transit time and the price, which is why we quote per route rather than per country.
What about customs duty on personal belongings?
Used household goods being moved with a person are treated differently from commercial cargo, and relief depends on your residence status in Turkey. We prepare the documents and tell you what your situation requires — we do not promise an outcome that depends on Turkish customs.
