Moving from Baku to the UAE
Two sensible routes and one common mistake — sending the whole household by air because the first box was urgent.
The UAE is not reachable by road in any practical sense, so the choice is between air and sea, and the two differ by weeks in time and by multiples in price. Getting that choice right is most of the value we add on this direction.
The split that works for almost everyone: a small air shipment with what is needed in the first fortnight — documents you must have, work equipment, clothes for the season, whatever makes the flat liveable — and a sea container with the furniture, the books and the kitchen behind it. Air alone costs several times more; sea alone means six weeks on an air mattress.
Air runs from Heydar Aliyev International and is three to seven days door to door. Sea goes out through Alat with onward carriage beyond the Caspian, and is realistically four to eight weeks. Both figures include customs, which is where most of the time actually goes.
Choosing the route
Air — fast, priced by chargeable weight
Airlines charge on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, so light bulky items are paid for by the space they occupy. Right for the urgent fraction, wrong for a sofa.
Sea — cheap per cubic metre, slow
A full household usually fits a 20-foot container. Below about half a container, a shared container is cheaper: you pay by cubic metre and share the space.

Packing and paperwork
Packed for the mode, not in general
Air freight has its own rules on packaging, weight distribution and marking — cargo packed for a truck gets refused at acceptance. Sea means weeks of humidity and movement, so it needs moisture protection and securing inside the container.

UAE customs is thorough. A numbered inventory with photographs is not bureaucracy for its own sake here; it is what keeps clearance to days rather than weeks.

How long does a move from Baku to Dubai take?
Air: three to seven days door to door. Sea: four to eight weeks, depending on routing and transhipment. Both include customs at both ends, which is the larger share of the elapsed time in the air case.

How much does a container to the UAE cost?
It depends on the volume, whether the container is yours alone or shared, and the port charges at both ends. We quote after a survey, because the volume is the number everything else depends on and it cannot be guessed from a description.
What cannot be shipped to the UAE?
The restricted list is longer than most people expect and covers some ordinary household items, certain publications and media, and anything classed as dangerous goods. Send us your list before packing — finding out at customs is expensive.
Can you deliver to the address in Dubai, not just the port?
Yes. Both the air and sea routes are quoted door to door: clearance at arrival and delivery to the address are part of the job, arranged through our partner agent.
